Our 5 Favourite Books this Month
Reading books with our kids is like feeding a woodchipper.
They are absolutely insatiable, demanding hours upon hours of reading every day, to the point where they will be reciting the pages back to us verbatim even if they cannot read the words themselves.
While delightful, and a lovely way to spend time together, it leads us to the problem of sourcing new reading material in a cost- and eco-friendly manner.
Thank heavens for the library
Every other Thursday at 2:30pm sharp, the local mobile libary van diligently pulls up into a quiet cul-de-sac about a mile from our house and its throaty engine clatters to a halt, the suspension sighing under the weight of books on its shelves.
This van has become quite the fixture in our house, with many a sentence starting with "When we go the the libary van on Thursday...".
So when the time comes, with a big bag, wellies and balance bikes at the ready, we set off to retrieve our latest haul of books to last us the coming fortnight.
Matilda would be proud
While we pick up new books each week, some chosen by us, some by the kids, what we've found is there are a few books each time that the kids want to hold onto for another fortnight, or that they want to borrow again after a few months have passed. We figured these must be the 'best' books for them, and so decided we'd share them here, with you, in case you hadn't discovered these gems just yet.
We adore books, and feel very strongly that few things in life are more important than reading together as a family. In our monthly 5 Favourite Books posts, we round up a collection of our favourites for you to try, and invite you to share your favourites in the comments below. We like BookShop because they allow you to buy books online, but also support local independent book shops at the same time. They even let you choose which store to support if you have a preference!
